This umeshu is produced using the plum syrup from the ‘Hitachi no ume’ brand, created in a traditional pickled vegetable shop in the city of Ōarai, currently managed by Mr. Soro Oyama, the eighth-generation representative of the family. Similarly, Keinosuke Hirose, who currently leads the HIROSE Company, also represents the eighth generation of his family. The collaboration between these two masters has led to the creation of this umeshu, produced using high-quality plums of the ‘Tsuyu Akane’ variety, typical of Ibaraki Prefecture. It has a brilliant red color, derived from the natural hue of the syrup, and an intense plum aroma.
The product was the winner of the Ibaraki Souvenir 2016 award and of the Ibaraki Design Selection 2018.
USE
Due to its sweet flavor, this beverage is very popular among women in Japan. It is ideal for sipping on the rocks before or after meals, but it can also be mixed with hot water to enhance its aroma or with soda for a refreshing cocktail. You can enjoy it on its own or pair it with mochi and Japanese sweets. In Italy, it’s a great match with ice cream in the summer and cakes during the colder seasons.
