IBARAKI PREFECTURE – JAPAN

DRY SWEET POTATO

Satstuma imo is the Japanese name for the American sweet potato, introduced to Ryukyu (now Okinawa) from China in about 1600. Ibaraki dried sweet potato is the result of a special selection of the Red Angel type of satsuma imo, grown without the use of pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers. The unique drying process makes each one of them soft and sweet.

The high content of antioxidants, minerals, fiber, and vitamins makes the consumption of sweet potatoes ideal for protecting the cardiovascular system. Moreover, it is almost fat-free and cholesterol-free.

USE

The high content of carbohydrates and dietary fibers makes this dried sweet potato ideal as a snack throughout the day. Its natural sweetness also makes it perfect for the preparation of desserts. In Italy, it can be also used to prepare sauces and ice cream.
